Book 1 Chapter 44
“Do you understand how absurd what you just said is?” Shin Hoods asked with a look of disbelief.
“There has only been one magician in the history of magic who possessed an entire magic system as their unique magic.”
“Yes, Luna, the progenitor of the Nebula.”
The magic systems currently in use were, in essence, legacies of the magical world created by great magicians throughout history, passed down through generations.
And in history, Luna was the only one who achieved the same feat alone.
To say that one would create a new magic system was no different than declaring that one would stand in the same position as Luna.
“Do you think you are a magician comparable to the progenitor of the Nebula?” Rilda asked, narrowing her brow. Leo shook his head.
“Certainly not. Luna is a magician infinitely greater than I am.”
Leo, who knew Luna’s genius better than anyone, understood that he could not even chase Luna’s shadow with his magic.
“However, you don’t need as much genius as Luna to create a magic system.”
Hearing Leo’s words, Aidman chuckled.
“Then, will you show us the unique magic system you created?”
At that, Leo raised his palm.
A stream of gray mana extended, forming a magic system.
The graduating students who watched intently let out gasps.
“The basic magic system is already established?”
“It’s not a simple copy.” Shin Hoods and Tilda said as they interpreted the magic system.
The first-year students also tried their best to interpret Leo’s magic system.
However, soon their eyes began to spin.
‘What kind of magic system is so complicated?’
‘Can something so complex actually be activated?’
‘Ah, I don’t know. I give up on interpreting it.’
The top-ranking students diligently tried to decipher the magic system Leo presented.
After a moment, Aidman opened his mouth.
“You said your goal was a magic system that could be compatible with all elemental manifestation formulas, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Judging by the structure of the spells, it seems designed to use any magic without penalty.”
At Aidman’s words, the first-year students wore looks of exhaustion.
‘He understood the spell structure after just a brief look?’
“That is correct.”
“That’s a preposterous idea.”
“Seeing it in person makes you seem even more insane.” Rilda and Shin Hoods muttered after hearing Leo.
However, their eyes were shining.
Magic was a discipline that brought the impossible into the realm of possibility.
Attempts that defied common sense should always be applauded.
“Why did you create this magic system?”
“To freely use all the magic that exists in the world.”
“You’re insane too?”
‘But the basic framework is complete. Is this what genius is?’
It was so absurd that it was uncertain whether this magic could be completed.
But he liked it.
‘A completely deranged junior has appeared. I see why they praised this year’s batch so highly.’
A being who could wield all spells.
Every magician has, at some point, imagined such a thing.
But it was such an absurd wish that even if they dreamed, no one dared to challenge it.
A magician who challenged that ideal appeared before them.
“What is the name of your unique magic?”
“The name of the magic is Bible.”
A magic system used by only the great hero Kyle in history.
At that name, Aidman chuckled.
“Leo Flob, A+.”
***
“You managed to get an A+ with that insane idea.”
“Ambition is best when it’s big, isn’t it?”
“Even so, don’t you know there’s a limit?” Kyle shook his head in disbelief.
The Bible’s magic system wasn’t created from scratch; it had been used since Kyle’s era.
‘Though I can’t use it perfectly with my current abilities.’
Even in Kyle’s prime, it was a magic system that he could barely use perfectly.
‘And in the end, it was incomplete.’
Because it was unstable, Leo couldn’t use it perfectly with his current skill.
What he presented in this exam was merely the basic spells of the Bible.
‘If I showed the original as is, there would be an uproar, so I couldn’t show it either.’
Leo looked at the podium.
Only the last student remained.
“Presenter Chloe Muller. Please step forward.” Ren called the last student.
“Oh my, I’m nervous for no reason.”
So far, only Leo and Abad had received A+.
Both had presented unique magics of enormous scale.
However, in terms of feasibility, Abad’s would have clearly scored higher.
In such a situation, with Chloe, the top student in practical magic for the first-year magic department, presenting, all students’ attention was naturally drawn to her.
Especially Kyle, who had witnessed Chloe’s declaration of war against Leo, felt even more nervous.
“Hello, seniors.” Chloe bowed her head.
“Yes, student Chloe. What have you prepared?”
“The unique magic I have prepared is fire-elemental magic.”
As she said that, murmurs spread throughout the hall.
“Fire-elemental?”
“Chloe is fire-elemental?”
“That’s impossible… Chloe is ice-elemental!”
“Why would she make opposite elements her unique magic?”
“Quiet! Quiet!” Ren raised his voice to mediate as the entire auditorium became noisy.
Meanwhile, Ren also wore a surprised expression. The element of the unique magic Chloe had prepared was also very unexpected to him.
“I will demonstrate it now.” Chloe uttered a small incantation.
Fwoosh-! A red flame appeared in the air.
“What kind of magic is this?” Kyle swallowed dryly and focused on the magic.
Whatever Chloe had prepared, it was bound to be immense.
However, the flame simply burned quietly, and nothing else happened.
“It’s a bit… ordinary?” Tilda asked with a slightly disappointed expression.
‘I heard she was a talent comparable to Leo or Abad?’
Leo’s magic represented a magician’s dreams and ideals.
Abad’s magic represented the ultimate power a magician could reach.
Compared to those two, the magic Chloe had shown was too ordinary.
“Why is this your unique magic?” Aidman asked seriously. Chloe replied.
“I will now show you the true value of this magic.” With a confident smile, Chloe murmured softly. Then, a blob of water formed in the air.
“This flame magic is not receiving any mana supply. What happens if I pour water on it in this state?”
“It will obviously go out.” To Shin Hoods’ question, Chloe smiled sweetly and poured water on the flame.
Sizzle-! The flame died down.
Fwoosh-! But instead of going out, it soon burned fiercely.
“……!”
“……!” The faces of the graduating students, as well as the students, changed. Leo’s face stiffened.
“How did you do that?” Tilda asked, surprised. Chloe replied.
“It’s my unique magic.” Proudly, Chloe extinguished the flame with her hand.
“I mean, I mean! So, student Chloe, what you’re saying is… you’ve given eternity to magic?” Tilda asked, her eyes wide open.
“Yes! As long as I don’t want it to, it will never go out!” Magic is a law made of spells. Therefore, absolute permanence cannot exist. Any magic will disappear when mana is no longer supplied. But Chloe had created permanence in magic spells. Chloe began to explain the magic system. Everyone listened intently to her presentation.
‘Impossible.’ Leo muttered inwardly while listening to Chloe’s presentation. He mentally combined the spell structures Chloe was explaining. But he could not replicate the inextinguishable flame. Even if it were due to Chloe’s unique mana properties, it was impossible. As far as Leo knew, only one being could emit eternally burning flames. ‘Erebus.’ Magic could never replicate that power. ‘Even Luna failed at this.’
“Chloe Muller, A+.”
“Thank you!” As the presentation ended, Leo’s mind naturally drifted to the practical summoning exam.
“Whoa, who created something like that?” Kyle muttered in a dazed voice.
“Hey, Leo. Isn’t it amazing?” Kyle turned his gaze towards Leo.
“Leo?”
“Huh? Ah, it’s amazing.”
“Why are you so spaced out?”
“It’s nothing.” Leo watched Chloe descend from the podium.
‘For now… I need to talk to Chloe.’
***
That evening. After finishing dinner, Leo left the men’s dormitory and headed for the women’s dormitory.
“Huh? Leo? What are you doing at the women’s dormitory?” Celia, who was sitting on a bench in front of the women’s dormitory talking with a friend, approached with a puzzled look.
“Celia, I’m sorry, but could you call Chloe for me?”
“Chloe said she went to bed early today. She hasn’t slept past midnight during the exam period.”
“Really? Then, please tell her I’d like to see her briefly before the exam tomorrow at the entrance of the Grand Training Ground.”
“Alright. But why Chloe all of a sudden?”
“I have something to talk about. Then I’m going.”
“Wait, Leo.” Celia called out to Leo.
“Why?”
“Is something going on with Chloe lately?”
“Why are you asking me that? You, as her classmate, would know better than I would, wouldn’t you?”
“Chloe got into a few fights with classmates. I thought it was because she was sensitive due to the exam period, but it seems to be getting worse. Plus, I heard she’s been hanging out with some questionable guys in the magic department recently.”
‘Chloe?’ Chloe was the type of person who looked out for others. At the beginning of the semester, she even helped Leo with his studies after school to help him adapt to the modern magic system. Celia, too, was initially upset when she lost the class president position, but soon recognized Chloe’s leadership. It was hard to imagine such a Chloe frequently getting into arguments with others. ‘First Kyle, then Celia… Is something really going on?’ Thinking about Chloe, Leo returned to his dormitory. He then drew the curtains by the window, sat on his bed, and opened his palm. Fwoosh-! A summoning circle made of flames appeared. Fiora poked her head out of the summoning circle. “Could you call your mother?” Fiora re-entered the summoning circle. After a moment, Pirina appeared. “It’s been a while, Leo.” “How have you been?” Pirina, in human form, had Fiora sitting on her head. Cheep-! Cheep-! Seeing Fiora flapping her wings and talking about something, Pirina smiled affectionately. “Ever since she was summoned by you, she’s been talking about when she gets bigger.” Pirina placed her daughter on Leo’s desk. Pirina toddled around Leo’s desk. “So, Leo. What was the reason you wanted to see me?” “You know that a magic beast appeared during the practical summoning exam, right?” “Yes, I heard a beast-mage was manipulating a new student at Rumern, right?” Pirina wore an expression of displeasure. As a beastfolk, Pirina found magic beasts to be extremely unpleasant beings, and anyone who controlled them, beast-mages, were beings that needed to be eliminated. “You mentioned that you were at Rumern at the principal’s request? Is this related to that matter?” Pirina rested her chin on her hand. The Rumern attack five years ago. Only a handful of people knew about that incident, whose perpetrators were never identified. The higher-ups at Rumern were deeply investigating the connection between this incident and the past one. ‘I can’t tell a first-year like Leo about this.’ “We can’t tell if there’s a connection yet. Of course, even if there is, I can’t tell you.” “I know. I just wanted you to convey this message to the principal.” “What message?” “That the student Tartarus reached out to might not be just Sen Liu.” Pirina’s complexion changed drastically. “Do you know something?” “It’s not confirmed yet, so I can’t say.” Just because she created inextinguishable flames didn’t mean it was definitely related to Erebus. Still, to be safe, she needed to inform Rumern’s higher-ups. Hearing Leo’s words, Pirina, with a serious expression, said as she took Fiora away, “I will tell Calian about your story.”
