Book 1 Chapter 943
Perena made a terribly embarrassed expression.
Lisinas, watching Perena, burst into a small laugh.
"Are you surprised that I realized you're from the future?"
"Ah… um, well… that is…"
One of the first principles of conquering a hero's world is to hide the conqueror's identity.
The moment they realize you're from the future, they see through your identity and realize this place is fake.
At that moment, those within the hero's world experience mental collapse.
Knowing that, Perena couldn't help but panic.
However, Lisinas was unfazed.
There was no sign of mental collapse.
As Perena pondered the reason, she reached a conclusion.
'Ah, perhaps it's because there was no hero's world during the Age of Calamity?'
If they don't know about the hero's world, they might simply think of you as someone from the future.
Lisinas looked at Perena without a word.
He was waiting for her to calm down.
Perena, realizing this, asked cautiously, "How did you know?"
"Your aura is different."
Lisinas smiled gently.
Perena's aura was vastly different from that of someone who had lived through the Age of Calamity.
Of course, that alone wasn't enough for Lisinas to see through Perena as a person from the future.
"And you treated me as if you knew me."
Lisinas grinned.
"I wondered if we'd met before, but I couldn't recall. And it felt like you were treating me like a historical figure. Also, your common sense seemed subtly different."
Thanks to those subtle attitudes and actions, Lisinas was able to realize that Perena was not from this era.
This was possible only because of Lisinas's insight.
'As expected, Lisinas-nim…'
Perena gazed blankly at Lisinas.
Lisinas chuckled, watching Perena, and asked, "So, from how far into the future do you come?"
Perena hesitated at his words.
Even though her identity from the future had been discovered, she was unsure if it was okay to reveal detailed information.
Seeing Perena's hesitation, Lisinas didn't ask anything troublesome.
"Still, the fact that a child like you comes from the future means our victory is certain, doesn't it?"
"Yes, the Great Heroes succeed in subjugating Erebus."
"I see. So, it really does succeed."
Lisinas looked amazed.
"Didn't you have unwavering faith in victory, Lisinas-nim?"
"Of course, I had no doubt that we would win."
Lisinas grinned.
"That's a lie. To be honest, I was always anxious. Everything I said was a lie."
Perena was surprised by his answer.
The biggest lie Lisinas told was that there was hope to save the world.
Even Lisinas himself couldn't fully believe that hope.
But he acted differently on the outside.
"As if there was a plan. As if light awaited beyond."
He rallied himself and showed the image of an unwavering leader.
"In the end, that lie became the truth, so it's no longer a lie?"
With a playful smile, sticking out her tongue slightly, Perena couldn't help but laugh.
For ages, people had revered the Great Heroes as divine beings.
But when Arion subjugated a fragment of Erebus.
When Luna appeared and fought the Lord of the Dead.
When Dweno subjugated the Giant King.
When Lisinas selected a new king to lead the next era.
Those who met the Great Heroes in person all said the same thing.
The Great Heroes were no different from us.
'Although some people, upon hearing that, cursed the Great Heroes for blasphemy…'
Meeting Lisinas in person like this, Perena could understand.
That they were people just like themselves.
"So? How am I recorded in the future?"
"You are called the King of Wisdom."
"That suits me."
Lisinas smiled with satisfaction.
When he was anxious, he hid his anxiety and even boasted, acting strong.
He laughed and rejoiced at small things.
Perena felt her heart lighten at Lisinas's innocent demeanor.
"What about Luna?"
"She became a guiding star for all elves, like a star in the night sky. Elves call her the Progenitor of Nebulae and truly respect her."
"Wow. Luna also achieved what she wanted? What about Arion?"
"He is called the Brave who turns the impossible into the possible."
"That's true… but I'm a little surprised to hear it's recorded that way. What about Dweno? Did he leave his name as an artist?"
"He is called the Divine Blacksmith. It was only relatively recently that Dweno's being an artist became known."
"I thought so. Artist, my foot."
Lisinas scoffed.
Then, he cautiously asked about the next person.
"What about Kyle?"
"Kyle-nim…"
Perena glanced at Lisinas's face.
Lisinas showed a slight sign of tension.
Seeing his face, Perena couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Lisinas's eyes widened, watching Perena.
"Ah, I'm sorry. Heh heh."
Perena calmed her laughter and looked at Lisinas.
Normally, such an attitude would be close to disrespectful, but Lisinas treated her so comfortably that she had forgotten.
"Lisinas-nim, you like Kyle-nim, don't you?"
"What?!"
Lisinas looked flustered.
"How did you know? Ah. Since you're from the future, you might know?"
Lisinas chuckled awkwardly.
"Yes. I know everything. Both Lisinas-nim and Luna-nim loved Kyle-nim."
"I see."
Lisinas nodded at Perena's words but then paused.
'Wait. How did it become known in the future that both of us liked that guy?'
He felt a pang of doubt.
'Could it be that guy was two-timing?'
"Kyle-nim was a forgotten Great Hero until recently."
"Forgotten?"
"Yes. Until recently, there were almost no records of Kyle-nim. So, for a long time, it was known that only four people had subjugated Erebus. Kyle-nim was considered a fictional hero."
"Pfft! Kyle would have been so angry if he heard that."
Lisinas burst into laughter.
Kyle wasn't particularly interested in leaving his name in the future.
'Still, if he went through all that hardship on the journey to defeat Erebus and was then forgotten, he would be incredibly upset.'
"Even so, that's a relief. The fact that you say that means they found proof that he actually existed, right?"
"Yes. As the last one standing, he saved the world and is called the 'Hero of the Beginning'."
Lisinas paused at Perena's words.
"Lisinas-nim?"
"I see. The future has truly regained peace."
Lisinas naturally changed the subject.
"Yes. It's all thanks to the Great Heroes. Thank you so much."
Perena bowed her head in gratitude.
"I'm glad. To be able to receive such gratitude."
"By the way, Lisinas-nim, what did you mean by saying I could choose a little while ago?"
"Oh? It's nothing much."
Lisinas spread out his palm and looked at his hand.
"I don't know what you call it in your era, but I was originally in charge of executing traitors to the world."
"Are you saying Lisinas-nim was the shadow? Not Kyle-nim?"
"Hmm. In the future, they call it the shadow, I suppose."
Lisinas nodded and grinned.
"That duty was originally the obligation of the dragon race, born as black dragons. Kyle took it, saying it was an unsuitable duty for me, who would lead the world to hope."
"I see."
"Yes. But I don't think that duty is at all dishonorable."
Perena's eyes widened at his words.
"Because I was born in darkness, I was able to yearn for light and learned how to find it."
"…"
"Of course, black dragons have been forced to do that unwanted task for a long time."
Lisinas said with a sincere gaze.
"I believe those who willingly walk that path are noble."
Perena looked dazed.
The selector of heroes looked at Perena with truthful eyes.
Her heart pounded inexplicably at his gaze, as if looking at a hero.
Just then.
Knock- knock- The door opened with a knock.
As the door opened, Berckia peeked her head in.
"Lisinas-nim. Where is Master Kyle?"
"Hmm? Why Kyle?"
"If Master Kyle isn't here, Lisinas-nim should come, right?"
"Did something happen?"
"Luna-nim caught a suspicious human named Kal."
"Kal-senpai?"
Perena exclaimed in surprise.
"It seems your companion has been caught by Luna. Well, why is that Kal person? Luna wouldn't harm someone just because they're suspicious."
"No. After investigating, she discovered something magically fascinating and is very pleased."
"That's so Luna. But why Kyle?"
"She's ranting about dissecting him."
"What did that magic fool do?"
At the voice from behind, Berckia looked in that direction.
There stood Kyle with Vihar.
"They caught a suspicious person, and she's going to dissect him."
***
"Heeeeeaaaaang! Thank you! Thank you!"
Kal grabbed Kyle's pant leg and wailed.
"Are you okay?"
"Perena! I thought I was going to die!"
"You didn't die."
Perena stated flatly.
Kal looked sad at her bluntness.
"By the way, you're a fearless brat, clinging to me like that."
Kyle looked at Kal with an expression of disbelief.
Kyle was famous as a surviving hero.
Even at this time, many in Gardsron feared Kyle.
So, Kal clinging to him so readily felt a bit strange.
Meanwhile.
Lisinas was scolding Luna.
"Are you crazy? No matter how fascinating, why dissect him? Are you going to kill someone for magic?"
"I didn't intend to kill him. I planned to sew him up nicely later. There wouldn't be any scars, right?"
Thwack-!
"Ouch!"
Lisinas hit Luna on the head without hesitation.
"Why on earth did you try to dissect him?"
Lisinas asked in a chilling voice, Luna whispered so only Lisinas could hear.
"Don't be surprised, that guy, he seems to be from the future. If that's true, isn't he someone worth catching and dissecting?"
"Even if it's true, that's no reason to dissect him."
Thwack-!
"Ouch!"
Lisinas hit Luna on the head again.
Luna, unable to resist because she was in the wrong, pouted and rubbed her head.
"I'll welcome you two as honored guests of Gardsron first."
"Thank you."
"How about staying at my place? I'll take good care of you."
As Luna's eyes lit up, Kal said in a frightened voice, "Could… could we stay at Kyle-nim's house?"
'What on earth happened?'
Watching Kal, Perena looked bewildered.
"I don't like noisy things."
"Kyle, you take care of them."
"Tsk."
At Lisinas's words, Kyle clicked his tongue but didn't object.
Luna looked slightly displeased.
Then, grumbling, she left the room.
Berckia followed her, and Vihar led Kal and Perena to a room.
As Kyle scratched his head and was about to leave the room.
"Kyle."
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry."
"If you're sorry, take those kids with you."
"I'm sorry."
Kyle looked back at Lisinas.
Lisinas was watching him with tears streaming down his face.
At this, Kyle looked bewildered.
"Why are you like this?"
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay, so don't cry. Huh? Ah, why are you really crying?"
Lisinas buried his face in Kyle's chest, who approached him.
In an unknown future.
Knowing that he, who had broken his promise, would once again make Kyle a surviving hero, Lisinas could only sob.
