Book 13 Chapter 26
Episode 15
“It was true, Head Professor.”
Cecil Durene said.
Here, where the splendor of the snowy landscape shone brilliantly from all directions, was Winterhold, the finest magic academy in the North.
The stern, mustachioed middle-aged man sighing was Kairn Wolf, the Head Professor of that very university. He was also Cecil’s mentor.
“So, that boy exterminated the dark wizard all by himself?”
Kairn had also participated in this Svalag extermination.
What he and his Winterhold mages had exterminated was "Toe No. 2." Kairn had judged him to be the leader among the dark wizards.
The other one, it was said, was exterminated by Ken Sherman alone.
“Perhaps the opponent felt too strong because of Svalag’s presence. You might have seen a hallucination.”
“It was true. And Bargante, it was a Bargante type! He continuously cast high-level magic as a beast-man!”
“Beast-man types cannot use high-level magic. This is an established theory.”
“Professor, I’ve never seen a wizard as powerful as that boy in my life. It’s true. Even when I asked Nils, he said he knew nothing but the name.”
Just then, someone knocked on the door and entered.
It was Kairn Wolf’s personal assistant.
Since the university’s summer vacation ended today, Kairn had to attend the opening ceremony.
“That was a very interesting story, Cecil Durene. But all the dark wizards who appeared this time were powerful. You don’t have to try to cover up your own shortcomings that way. You are still young, and your future is bright.”
As Kairn, dressed in his hanbok *dopo*, left the office first, Cecil Durene’s fists trembled.
Why, why does no one believe me?
But if he put himself in their shoes, he might have also taken it as a simple joke if he had heard it from someone else.
“Savage, savage, savage.”
From Cecil’s shoulder, the Sun Conure Taro chirped as if comforting him. Cecil gently stroked Taro’s head, thinking.
‘Rin, where on earth are you?’
What kind of wizard would conceal their identity? Their skill was the honor of their school and family, after all.
“Head Professor, what were you talking about?”
Meanwhile, Kairn, walking through Winterhold’s corridors with his assistant, also fell into thought for a moment.
High-level Bargante-type magic…
Of course, while it was an established theory that beast-men couldn’t use high-level magic, there had indeed been a being in the history of magic who broke that orthodoxy.
‘Osarius.’
A genius battle-mage, said to be an equal to Lyuken Ludwig, one of the Five Great Archwizards, in combat magic.
But he died without revealing his beast-man magic to the public. Was it to hide it from his ‘arch-enemy’?
After Osarius’s death, not a single genius emerged among his disciples. Although, rumors were circulating that a genius who appeared only now, some 500 years later, Atlante, was reviving the school.
“While I was away on the Svalag extermination mission, there was a commotion during Winterhorizon’s Bandoran (1-star) ranking exam, wasn’t there?”
“Huh? Oh, yes! A disciple of the Osarius School is said to have finished the practical exam by appropriately combining Remediere-type and Bargante-type magic.”
“Gender?”
“It was a female. To be precise, a girl. She is currently 12 years old.”
Hmm… Cecil Durene had said that the wizard seemed like a boy, but he couldn’t distinguish the exact gender.
But the timing doesn’t match.
No, if she came to the extermination camp with Head Tinker Nils right after finishing the Bandoran (1-star) ranking exam, then it might match.
“Wow, by the way, it seems the Osarius School’s day to shine is finally coming. I suppose that’s natural, with Senior Atlante there.”
Atlante is not a noble and has no surname, but she has the middle name Wolf, like Kairn. She is Winterhold’s top graduate. Incidentally, she also learned magic from Kairn at the university.
“Now I will go to the opening ceremony. You return to my office and send out an owl. If you infuse it with mana, telling it to go to the Magic Guild branch, it will understand.”
Wizards used owls with high mana sensitivity as a means of communication.
“Yes, but what should the content be?”
Kairn held the position of Northern Inspector in the Magic Guild.
“Tell them to inspect the vicinity of the Osarius School’s magic tower. To see if there’s anything unusual.”
